PINA COLADA

 

The Piña Colada, born in Puerto Rico, has an origin that remains a mystery to this day. There are conflicting stories about its creation. Some people credit bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero, who, in 1954, aimed to create a drink at the Caribe Hilton hotel that captured the essence of Puerto Rican flavors. Others attribute its creation to pirate Roberto Cofresí, who supposedly mixed the first Piña Colada at sea to boost the morale of his crew. Despite the conflicting stories, the birthplace of this iconic drink remains undisputed - Puerto Rico, a place known for its sunshine, vibrant culture, and delicious cocktails.

LEMON DROP MARTINI

The Lemon Drop is a cocktail created by Norman Jay Hobday, the founder of Henry Africa's in San Francisco, during the 1970s. The drink was initially served in a cocktail glass and is believed to have been named after the lemon drop candy.

CHOCOLATE CREAM MARTINI

The Chocolate Martini's origins are linked to the Hollywood icon, Rock Hudson. In February 1957, Hudson starred in the film Battle Hymn, which premiered at the Colony Theatre in Marietta, OH. It is not often that Hollywood premiers take place in small cities; hence this event is forever remembered as a historic moment for Marietta.

Wake Me Up Before You Go Go...

The Espresso Martini is a relatively new drink that is believed to have been created in the early 1980s by London bartender Dick Bradsel. According to Dick, a famous model once visited the Soho Brasserie where he was working and asked him to create a drink that would "wake her up". And thus, the Espresso Martini was born.

GRAND MARGARITA

There are two different stories about the origin of Margarita, a popular cocktail. One version says that it was created in 1938 by Carlos (Danny) Herrera, a Mexican restaurant owner, who mixed it for Marjorie King, a beautiful Ziegfeld showgirl. Another version claims that Margaret Sames, a Texas socialite also known as Margarita, mixed the first drink at a house party in Mexico in 1948.

Lychees, which are now considered an ordinary fruit in China, were once crowned as "the National Fruit" over a millennium ago because they were the favourite of the First Lady. Furthermore, the love story between Emperor Tang Xuanzong and Lady Yang justifies lychees' other name, "Fruit of Romance".
